After much deliberation over security, IT services departments around Newcastle and the North East started to stick their necks out give cloud computing a try. At the same time the huge amount of business groups weren’t waiting around, instead they were happily typing in their card numbers and doing the exact same thing but on a much larger scale.
The result of this nearly viral cloud service uptake is an IT services headache for the relevant IT departments. According to figures from the first quarter of 2015, the typical firm has over 900 cloud services applications.
The outcome is businesses now have numerous associations in the business. Each association has its own Service Level Agreement (SLA), its own data security levels, not one person is certain who owns the affiliation, and any markets that scale significantly are probably being lost over a segmented methodology.
The problem then for the IT services departments, because unavoidably this is where the liability is thrown to if something goes wrong, is how do you cope with this multi-solution yet multi-provider management problem?
A survey which took place in September 2014 which consulted 675 IT decision makers from international organisations, found that the bulk of businesses have purchased offerings from many vendors at a time, resulting in a multifaceted cloud services environment that may be obstructing their liveliness and haste the already competitive marketplace.
When asked if they were content with the multiple-vendors the majority of those questioned justifiably said ‘no’, 76% actually. What they said they’d prefer was a single dedicated cloud services IT partner, either to cope with the relationships with others or as a single provider.
