Microsoft Solutions Engineer

Location:

This role requires you to be based at our Durham Head Office, located half way between Durham and Newcastle.  This role is an office based full-time position, with site visits to meet clients.

About the Role:

As a Solutions Engineer at Concept IT you’ll have a strong technical background implementing Microsoft Cloud Solutions, digital transformation, Modern Workplace, solving problems as well as investigating and resolving a wide range of technical issues, including those escalated from support teams.

You’ll need to have extensive knowledge of a wide range of technologies including but not limited to: Microsoft Entra ID, SharePoint, Windows Server, Exchange, SQL, Microsoft 365, Virtualisation, RDS, Amazon AWS as well as networking technologies from Cisco and other market leaders.

As well as implementing & supporting Microsoft 365 and related Cloud technologies, you’ll also be involved with traditional on-site systems (Windows Server, Active Directory, backup services, etc.)

Main requirements for a successful Solutions Engineer:

  • An excellent understanding of and hands on experience with networking technologies and their associates concepts such as LAN/WAN/WiFi/DHCP/DNS/DMARC/DKIM
  • Exceptional knowledge of the services and concepts of Microsoft Server, Desktop operating systems, Microsoft Exchange Server and associated technologies
  • A strong understanding of Microsoft Entra ID, SharePoint, Exchange online, 365, its functions and security stacks
  • Previous experience of virtualisation such as Hyper-V, VMWare, Citrix, Clusters and SANs
  • Experience of Cyber Essentials, its concepts, assessment and certification
  • An excellent understanding of the best practices of backups, disaster recovery and advanced knowledge of and exposure to backup platforms (Acronis, Veeam, Datto Backup)

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide technical lead services on project work such as Microsoft 365 migration, server installation, hardware/network refreshes
  • Consult with clients and team members to design solutions
  • Work with our clients to arrange site visits, downtime windows and maintenance schedules
  • Implementation of solutions for clients on both small works and projects including configure and installation of equipment
  • Ensure day to day service delivery is in line with our working policies, operating procedures and ISO standards
  • Taking ownership of escalated issues from other Support colleagues, following through to completion

This is a permanent position, working 39 hours per week 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 4:30pm on Fridays. You’ll be part of an on-call rota , and there will be very occasional weekend work required to meet business needs.

Our Requirements – Solutions Engineer:

    • Experience gained working in a 2nd or 3rd Line IT Support role, either in an IT department as part of a wider organisation or as part of an MSP (external managed service provider)
    • Creative with a positive outlook to new challenges and change
    • Experience gained working with Microsoft Windows and Server Support, including Microsoft 365 and Azure
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly approach
    • Full UK driving licence

Although not essential, having Microsoft 365 and / or Azure certifications is highly advantageous, as is experience gained working with Amazon AWS and having relevant AWS certifications.

Every new member of our team receives weekly progress meetings for the first 8 weeks, a comprehensive 90 day onboarding & training plan and monthly 1-2-1’s.

In terms of software, as a Microsoft Silver Partner, we primarily provide support with Microsoft products, however, we also provide support for Sage, Adobe, Apple and Android mobile OS, as well as network printing and back-up technologies. In relation to hardware we focus on HP, HP Enterprise, Aruba, Cisco, and Meraki products, in addition to setting up firewalls, network switches and servers, and leased line connectivity.
